>> Google announces launch of Google Earth for Mac
When I first mentioned Google’s fantastic “virtual globe” software last year, we had a huge number of very enthusiastic emails and one recurring criticism – Why was there no version available for Apple Mac users?
So it’s good to see that Google have responded to that and finally released a version of Google Earth for Mac OS X. Like the Windows version, this free download lets you type in a postcode (or the name of a town or road) to zoom into a satellite view of that location. You can fly around the globe from space at dizzying speeds and even follow driving directions from the air.
(NB: Users on dial-up connections or with older computers may find that the software is slow or unresponsive – Check the Google Earth site before downloading for recommended system configuration).
Miles here!
Thanks to Brian Winterbourne who emailed the following Google Earth tip:
"I first used Google Earth last year and my home area of Cardiff was then only presented in low resolution. Not long before Christmas my mate said that Cardiff was now in high res, so I went back in to check - but still only saw low res. Some days and much confusion later, I found 'clear disk cache' in Tools/Options. Tried that, went back to our local postcode and there we were in high res. So it's worth clearing the cache once in a while to see what's new."

What is odd is the areas that Google Earth have made hi-res. Is it just coincidence that GB has a lot of it?
Also, look across the US. Many of the cities under the Google 'eye' have white 3d overlays to cover buildings. Do they have to request and pay for that?
